Spinning Merino Wool on a Wheel ~ February 17th, 7pm to 9pm
Instructor - Ikumi Kamara
Spinning Merino: Why Is This So Hard?
Merino is one of the most common spinning fibers—and also one of the most challenging. If you’ve ever wondered why that gorgeous merino in your stash feels harder to spin than you expected, this class is for you.
This is a hands-on class where we’ll explore why merino behaves the way it does and how to work with it instead of fighting it. We’ll talk about what makes merino tricky, try different spinning approaches, and look at how small adjustments to your spindle or wheel can make a big difference.
By the end of class, you’ll have a better understanding of how to confidently spin merino—whether that means finally tackling what you already have or fearlessly adding more to your collection.
Prior Experience:
You should be able to make continuous spun yarn of at least 2 yards.
What to Bring:
Your favorite spinning tool—spindle or wheel (all types welcome).
Provided:
Merino top, roving, and batts/rolags are provided at no additional fee.
