Why Knit a Swatch: What does it tell me? ~ February 21st, 2:00pm to 3:30pm
Knitting a Swatch (Yes, Really)
Instructor - Deirdre Holder
Aww, man… not another person telling me I have to knit a swatch. Don’t worry—this isn’t that kind of class.
This class is about why you might want to knit a swatch, when it’s actually worth the time, and how it can even be useful (and maybe enjoyable). We’ll talk about how big a swatch really needs to be, whether or not to block it (that is the question), and what information a swatch can actually give you. We’ll also explore what a swatch is—and isn’t. (Spoiler: it doesn’t always have to be a square or a rectangle.)
You’ll leave with a better understanding of when swatching makes sense, how to do it efficiently, and how to use the information it gives you—without feeling nagged.
Prerequisites:
You should know how to knit, including casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch, and binding off.
What to Bring:
An open mind. If you have any swatches handy, bring them along. If you have a pattern you plan to knit soon (or aspire to knit) that suggests making a swatch—especially if you have questions about what it says—please bring that too.
No special preparation is required for this class.
