Learn to Knit, Basic Sweater - 4 Week Series (February 16 - March 16th, 10:00am to 1:00pm)
Sundays February 16 - March 16 (skipping February 23rd)
Welcome to beginning knitting! During these 4, 2.5-hour sessions we will cover basic stitches and techniques, reading a pattern, and knitting terminology, giving you a strong foundation for further knit development.
Session 1: Knit, purl, cast on, find and pick up a dropped stitch, sizing your sweater, reading the pattern. During this first session you will decide on a project to work on in the following 3 sessions. Several simple sweater pattern choices will be available. Homework between sessions will be based on what you want to accomplish on your project.
Session 2: Review and address any lingering issues from the first session. Cast on and begin your project. Various methods used to increase and decrease. Introduction to SSK, YO, M1R, M1L and other common terms.
Session 3: Work on you project. Continue to cover hints and tricks of stitch increases, decreases, and picking up dropped stitches.
Session 4: What are you struggling with? What hints did you learn along the way? We will look at the remaining work to be done on your project, if any, and design a game plan to complete.
Supplies: Shop yarn and needles will be used for the introductory knitting and practice stitches.
For your project of choice we will discuss patterns and yarn choices. All students receive a 10% discount for items purchased in the store.
