Introduction to Weaving! (2-day Session ~ Various Dates)

This hands-on course is designed for absolute beginners and creative enthusiasts who want to delve into the world of textile arts. We will guide you through the fundamental techniques of weaving, providing you with a strong foundation to create your own woven masterpieces.
You will warp and weave your very own one-of-a-kind scarf!
What You Will Learn:

Understanding the Loom: Gain insight into a rigid-heddle table loom, the parts, and how they function. Learn the essential terminology associated with weaving.

Fibers: Using worsted weight yarn, explore the characteristics of fibers and how they influence the final woven product.

Basic Weaving Techniques: Learn how to dress a rigid-heddle loom, change yarn colors, create a straight selvage, weft tails.

Color and Design: Learn how to create visually appealing patterns and color combinations in your woven projects.

Project Planning: Develop skills in project planning, including choosing the right materials, calculating warp and weft, and creating a design plan for your weaving projects.

Hands-on Weaving: Practice your skills on a loom. Receive personalized guidance and tips from our experienced instructor as you work on your weaving project.
You are encouraged to experiment and explore your creativity. This is where the magic happens! Classes are limited to 4 participants per session to ensure hands-on instruction.

Notebook and Pen: For jotting down important points and sketching design ideas.

Worsted weight yarn: Bring treasures from your stash or purchase in the store. Around 500 to 600 yards should be sufficient - we will discuss this more in class. Weaving is a terrific way to use up all those yarn remnants that have been batting around. There will also be some shop remnants available for use.
- A rigid heddle loom and equipment: We have class looms that we will use. If you own a loom and would like to bring it to work on, please let us know in the "notes" section of the class sign up process.
About the Loom and Related Equipment:
Sweet Pea Fiber will supply a Cricket rigid-heddle table loom and all the related equipment from the Schacht Spindle Company You are welcome to take the loom home between the 1st and 2nd session by leaving a security deposit. Equipment necessary for the class includes:
- rigid heddle loom (we are using a 15" Cricket)
- 8 dent rigid heddle reed
- warping peg and clamp
- heddle hook
- 2 stick shuttles
By the end of this workshop, you will not only have a deeper understanding of the art of weaving but also take home your own beautifully crafted woven textile, showcasing your new found skills and creativity.
