Designing a Knitting Pattern ~ March 8th, 2pm to 4pm
Instructor - Deirdre Holder
Have you ever wanted to design your own knitting pattern—or found yourself modifying patterns and wondering how designers make their choices? This class explores what goes into designing a clear, usable, and enjoyable knit pattern, whether it’s your first design or your next one.
We’ll explore what's required to design a pattern and what makes a good knitting pattern and the key elements every pattern needs.
What you will learn: How to think like a designer, make intentional decisions, and turn an idea into a plan. By the end of class, you’ll leave with a clear path forward for your own pattern design.
This class focuses on knit patterns. While many concepts may apply across crafts, instruction and examples will be knitting-specific.
Prerequisites:
- You should be comfortable knitting and have knit from at least one pattern.
- Basic skills required include casting on, knitting, purling, and binding off.
What to Bring:
Bring a knitting pattern you have questions about or one you admire for its design and clarity. If you have ideas for a pattern you’d like to create, bring those along too. No special preparation is required—we’ll get started together and learn from one another.
