Beginner-friendly Crochet Class: Granny Squares and Coasters

The granny square is a crochet classic—simple, versatile, and full of possibilities! Whether you are still a beginner or you’ve expanded your crochet skill and want a refresher, this class will walk you through the basics of one of the most beloved crochet motifs.

In this hands-on class, you’ll learn:

• Step-by-step instructions for making a traditional granny square including joining in the round

• Tips for changing colors and joining squares together

By the end of class, you’ll have completed at least one granny square and gained the confidence to keep going at home. The class project will focus on both traditional granny square and flower coasters. 

Skills you should already have:  You should know how to chain, single crochet, and double crochet.  

Suggested Supplies (you can bring your own or purchase in the shop)

• Either #2, fine or #3 light worsted weight cotton (medium weight, light-colored yarn makes stitches easier to see)
  

• Crochet hook size E/4 (3.5mm) or F/5 (3.75mm) for #2 yarn or G/6 (4mm), 7 (4.5mm) or H/8 (5mm) for #3 light worsted weight 

• Small pair of scissors or yarn snips
  

• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
