Colorwork Headband
Instructor - Deirdre Holder

In this class we will explore various knit colorwork based on Fair Isle and Stranded Color Work styles and create a beautiful Celtic Knot headband.  The pattern is designed at a beginner level.  The pattern is knit in the round; seamless.  This particular design is unisex (2 sizes) and not season specific - it’s wide enough to keep your ears warm, yet not so tight on your head to be uncomfortable. You will love wearing it through most of the seasons!

What you will learn:
  • How to pick colors to best show colorwork designs when used together
  • How to keep your color changes and the design smooth
  • How to knit for color dominance, to see designs clearly
  • Simple knit increase and decrease (for the large size)
  • The long tail cast on (a good default if a pattern doesn’t specify a particular cast on)
  • Reading a simple chart

Prerequisites:

What to Bring:

  • Worsted weight yarn – 2 colors, 57 yards (52 m) – main color; 35 yards (32 mm – contrast color
  • Knitting needles – 16” circular needles in sizes US 7 – 4.5 mm & US 6 - 4.0 mm  (If you choose to do a gauge swatch, gauge is 18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch (alternating knit a row, purl a row), unblocked on larger size knitting needles; smaller needles are 1 size smaller than the needles you got gauge on)
  • Copy of the pattern
  • 14 – 15 stitch markers (small vs. large size headband) (beginning of round stitch marker should look different from the other stitch markers)
