Bobbin Lace Foundations ~ May 16 + 23 + 30 from 10am to 12pm
Special workshop series!
Instructor: Renown artist Sarah J. Hull
Bobbin Lace Foundations
This three-week beginner bobbin lace class at Sweet Pea Fiber will start with the essentials:
- learning how to wind bobbins,
- read simple patterns, and
- practice the core movements of lacemaking.
From there, we’ll move into learning to read working diagrams and expand on the knowledge from the first class. In the final week and as your hands grow more confident, we’ll ease into small improvisational exercises that invite curiosity and play within the structure of traditional lacework.
By the end of this class you’ll have a grounding in classic techniques and a feel for how to let your own sensibility emerge through thread, rhythm, and pattern. This class is designed to be welcoming and allow participants to work at multiple speeds.
The class fee includes your pattern and informational kit, which is required for all students. This kit includes:
- Lace patterns and informational material used through the classes
- 3 Beads
- Micro crochet hook
All participants will need a bobbin lace pillow and a minimum of 24 bobbins along with a few other supplies. You can rent or purchase an Introductory Bobbin Lace Pillow Kit (not required if you already have a basic bobbin lace setup that includes the items listed in the kit). Please feel free to contact Sarah sarah@sarahjhull.com if you have any questions:
