Extend your wings, and fly!!

Saturday, January 14th - 10:00am to 12:00 noon

Come join instructor Lori Rolston and learn a formula to extend the wingspan of your triangular project.  We will have so much fun busting out the creative spirit and coloring outside of the box.

What you will learn

  • Garter tab and the basic triangular shape
  • How to expand the wingspan of any triangular shape
  • How to change the direction of the wingspan, making all sorts of interesting geometric shapes

Skills needed:  Ability to knit, purl, and some experience with increasing and decreasing.  If you need to brush up on skills before the class, please come to the shop any Wednesday evening between 6pm and 9pm, or make an appointment by sending a message to "helppeas@sweetpeafiber.com".

Materials needed:

Yarn - You, the designer, will determine the amount of yarn.  This choice will be based on what size you want your shawl to be.  Yarn guidelines:

  • Fingering -- 100 grams of fingering weight yarn with at least 400 total yards.
  • Sport / DK / Worsted - 300 to 600 yards

Feel free to bring some scrape yarn for learning purposes if you are not ready to start a new project.

Needles - Shawls are knit at a slightly looser gauge than usual in order to make your fabric have a nice drape.  Suggest circular needle size with a minimum 24" to 32" cable.

  • Fingering weight - US size 5-7
  • Sport weight - US size 6-7
  • DK weight - US size 7-8
  • Worsted weight - US size 8-10

COVID protocols: Although masks are optional when shopping in the store, we request that masks are worn during class.  Please do not attend class if you are not feeling well or have been exposed to COVID.
