Instructor Lori Rolston

Do you know about these mitten?  They are incredible!  Have they been on your bucket list for awhile? Are you ready for the February cold front?

Thrummed mittens originate from Newfoundland and Labrador. They are a special mitten where little wisps of unspun wool roving are knit into the mitten. These wisps (thrums) felt over time with repeated wear and form a fleece lining, keeping your hands and fingers toasty warm.

This 3-hour class will move you well down the path of creating your first pair of these amazing mittens.

You will Learn:

  • A stretchy cast on -- The German Twisted cast on
  • Making an "afterthought" thumb
  • Preparing the thrums
  • Thrum placement in the mitten

Skills needed: ability to knit and to work in the round

    Materials:

    • Minimum 200 yards/100g of worsted weight yarn
    • Roving for the thrums - 2oz
